Herts Interpreting and Translation Service (HITS) has been awarded the Nuffield Trophy for 2007 by the Chartered Institute of Linguists. Awarded on an annual basis, the Trophy is given to the leading examination and training centre of the year in the Diploma in Public Service Interpreting (DPSI) qualification. The Trophy was presented to HITS by the Institute's Royal Patron, His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent, at a special prize-giving ceremony in London on Thursday, November 15th. The award of the Trophy to HITS is not only a tremendous accolade for the overall organisation but also an appropriate recognition for the wholehearted commitment and high level of professional skill displayed throughout the past year by all tutors, guest lecturers, administrative staff and (of course) students. This is the second occasion on which HITS has received a national award from the Institute. In 2002, an Urdu-speaking candidate, Ms Tahira Yasmin, achieved the Jaffer Hamid Cup for best DPSI candidate in the Local Government Option.
