From a modest beginning of its service in 2002, delivering just five jobs a week with just 10 interpreters, HITS has grown to the point where it now delivers approximately 40,000 interpreting and translation assignments annually, calling upon more than 500 regular interpreters and translators every month.

HITS provides a full range of language support services (telephone and face-to-face interpreting, translation, audio recordings, language assessments) for Health Trusts, Local Authorities, non-statutory sector organisations, commercial and private clients throughout Hertfordshire, Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and beyond.

Interpreter Training

In addition to the delivery of language services, HITS has also established a national reputation for its high-quality interpreter training courses. Since 2001, HITS has been a training and examination centre on behalf of the Chartered Institute of Linguists and in both 2007 and 2010 was awarded the Nuffield Trophy by the Chartered Institute as the leading DPSI Examination Centre of the year in the U.K. In addition to its own core training provision throughout the East of England and Thames Valley, HITS has also been commissioned to deliver interpreter training courses by local authorities throughout England, Scotland and Wales.

Since 2001, at more than 20 locations throughout the UK, HITS has delivered professional training to more than 2000 prospective public service interpreters.

24 hours a day, seven days a week service

HITS provides a full service 24 hours a day, seven days a week for its entire customer base. It has its own highly trained and qualified interpreters available in more than 140 languages and dialects.

Originally formed within the Local Authority (Dacorum Borough Council), since 2001 HITS has been managed by Community Action Dacorum (Registered Charity # 288080). It is one of series of community-focused projects and services delivered by the overall charity. Other services include Community Transport, Cultural Learning and several pan-European learning and training projects.

For almost 20 years, HITS has delivered a high-quality, community-centred, ethically-driven service to all its customers. It continues to flourish and faces the future with confidence.
